A great team managing a

Bank station is the fourth busiest station on the London
Underground network. At peak times 100,000 people travel through
the station in the morning rush hour.
The two key objectives of the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade are
to increase capacity at the station and minimise journey times.
Additionally, a step-free route will be provided between the
Northern line platforms, DLR and street levels.
On behalf of Principal Contractor Dragados, JGL undertook extensive
modification and adaption of the existing tunnel infrastructure,
requiring squareworks to tie in with several new SCL passages
and existing assets. These included a new adit between existing
Northern Line platform tunnels and new cross passages at Northern
Line, Central Line and DLR level.
Bank Station was one of our biggest and busiest projects, operating
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The step-plate junction required encircling the existing Northern
Line tunnels with a new tunnel, while allowing continued use of the
asset.
Site team members from Dragados and JGL were involved at various
points in the design to improve constructability and safety.
A major milestone was reached in March 2019 with the completion
of a tunnelled connection between Cannon Street station and the
Northern Line.
