A day in the LIFE of Arsalan Khan, JGL Group Environmental and
Sustainability Manager
As Group Environmental and Sustainability Manager,
my priority is ensuring that all our sites have the
support, tools and guidance they need to achieve and
maintain full environmental compliance.
My role involves conducting site audits and visits,
responding to tender queries, reviewing environmental
plans, and working closely with project teams to drive
environmental performance across the business.
A key part of my role is managing sustainability
reporting through SmartWaste, helping us measure,
monitor and improve our environmental performance.
I also work closely with clients to ensure we meet their
environmental and sustainability requirements while
delivering practical solutions that add value to projects.
Alongside supporting our sites, I am responsible for
ensuring that JGG maintains e昀昀ective Environmental
Management Systems (EMS) and Energy Management
Systems (EnMS), helping to embed sustainability and
continuous improvement throughout the organisation.
LIFE challenges
One of the biggest challenges I face is responding to
the wide range of environmental issues that can arise
across our sites on a daily basis. Construction projects
move quickly, and environmental matters often
require immediate attention to avoid delays, ensure
compliance and protect the environment.
To overcome this, I make it a priority to be available
and responsive to our site teams whenever they need
support. Whether it’s providing urgent advice, helping
resolve compliance concerns, or guiding teams
through unexpected environmental challenges, I focus
on delivering practical solutions quickly and e昀昀ectively.
Being proactive, prepared and maintaining strong
communication with our teams allows us to address
issues before they escalate. My goal is to ensure that
site teams have the con昀椀dence and support they need
to keep projects moving forward without unnecessary
delays while maintaining the highest environmental
standards.
Adding value
What I enjoy most about my role is working with our
brilliant teams across the business. Every day brings
new challenges, and the support from our leadership
makes the role both rewarding and motivating.
Together, we are driving meaningful behavioural
change towards better environmental performance and
sustainability, helping to create a culture where these
principles are embedded in everything we do.
