Careers engagement
and school outreach
activities
As part of our ongoing commitment to
supporting young people and promoting
careers within the construction and
engineering sectors, members of the HR
team recently participated in a series of
school engagement events aimed at inspiring
the next generation of talent.
Grays Convent High School
On Wednesday 7 October, Amelia and Abigail from
the HR team attended a mock interview event at
Grays Convent High School, dedicating 7 hours each
to supporting Year 11 students as they explored their
future career aspirations. During the event, they
engaged with students to discuss potential career
paths, the steps required to achieve their goals, and
lessons learned from their own professional journeys.
As part of the programme, Amelia and Abigail
conducted mock interviews, providing constructive
feedback to help students strengthen their interview
techniques, build con昀椀dence, and develop essential
employability skills. The sessions also included
discussions around educational routes into di昀昀erent
professions, personal career progression experiences,
and an overview of career opportunities within our
business, highlighting the quali昀椀cations and academic
expectations associated with various roles.
St John Payne, Catholic School, Chelmsford
Lisa Bryanton, HR Director, attended St John Payne
Catholic School in Chelmsford, contributing 2.5 hours
to a careers presentation delivered to approximately
290 Year 12 and Year 13 students.
Lisa’s presentation focused on careers in civil
engineering, the bene昀椀ts of apprenticeships,
the importance of choosing the right employer,
and practical advice on writing e昀昀ective CVs and
cover letters. Students demonstrated excellent
engagement throughout the session, asking thoughtful
questions about career development, apprenticeship
opportunities, and routes into the construction and
engineering industries. The event generated strong
participation from both year groups and received very
positive feedback from students and sta昀昀 alike.
Supporting future talent
These activities form part of our wider commitment
to industry engagement, career awareness, and social
value delivery. By sharing knowledge, experience, and
practical guidance, our team continues to help young
people make informed decisions about their future
education and career pathways while highlighting the
exciting opportunities available within the construction
and engineering sectors.
